Great reading and resource for anyone who is thinking about taking up this sport. Since I've already been once I can certainly see how valuable this would have been had I had it for the 2006 season. We were in them for a few days but didn't know how to get back on them once we disturb their pattern. We also wasted a lot of time only hunting morning and evening, which was fine when we knew where they were but should have been using the afternoons to relocate them when they moved out. One thing is clear. You gotta be in shape and it is not a passive sport.
After reading this material I think you can double the average success rate of 10%, depending on the unit, by just applying the knowledge in these books. It kind of reminds me of a graduate class I had several years back on management. The class was Situational Leadership and it basically dealt with different situations in which there might be several approaches to getting desired results but typically one or two might provide the best results. When I think of Elk Hunting now each encounter may have it's own unique characteristics which has to be evaluated and a plan of action developed. The more limitations you have, poor physical conditioning, lack of knowledge etc. the fewer options you have in your arsenal. No doubt I'll read these several more times before next September and share them with guys in my party. Elk Hunting 101 will be in my backpack as well. I don't know if you can truly tilt the odds in your favor but this literature will sure help close the gap. Thanks for devoting your time and passion to sharing this knowledge. It saves us newbies years of knowledge acquisition.
Kindest Regards,
Mark Richards

I finished Elk Hunting 101 after the second day I got it and I really enjoyed it. I have read some other books on elk hunting and yours is the best I have read so far. I can tell your book was written by someone who is a hunter first and a author second and by someone who really truly cares about the success of your readers.

Elk Hunting 301 is the long anticipated pinnacle of the series. Jay's commitment to bringing useful, accurate elk hunting how-to information is evident in this wonderfully written publication. As a professional hunter and archer, I'm always looking for no-nonsense meat and potatoes information. Jay provides this and more in his Elk Hunting 01 series. If you are looking to better yourself in terms of hunting the mighty Wapiti, Jay's series is a must have.

Well, I just finished up 201, GREAT BOOK! It is a monumental task for me to read a book cover to cover in 2 days, but when the content is this good, I can do it. Now that I have read both books from The University of Houston, I expect that if I do not kill a bull in Utah or kill a bull in Colorado, I will hold you personally responsible! Just kidding, great job and thanks for the RMEF plug! I can't wait for 301.

I wanted to write and say thank you for being at the RMEF convention in Reno. I picked up your book Elk Hunting 101 and I have to say that I thought I knew all I needed to know about elk hunting but boy was I wrong. I have been vary successful elk hunting over the years during the rifle seasons, but not that successful during the archery season. After reading your book I now know what I need to do to be a successful archery hunter. I put the old bow away and purchased a Matthews Switchback loaded with all of the bells and whistles (The wife will get over it) and have started a intense work out program and intend to drop 20 pounds. It's not that I'm over weight but I have put on to much muscle lifting over the years at the fire station. After reading your book I now know why I lost so many opportunities with my bow and that was because of the wind. I consider myself a good caller and don't have any problems getting close to nice elk, but now I know why I could never get closer then 40-yards. I could never understand why. I have already put a feather on my bow and have picked up some powder for the wind. I am so excited about hunting this season from what I took in from your book that I have extended my elk hunting.

I have really enjoyed ready Elk Hunting 101. I am so impressed with your writing I have purchased the next two with the video and an additional copy of the first one to give to a friend. You are very insightful. Your website is very informative and helpful. As a Christian myself and new to the realm of elk hunting, I appreciate what God has blessed you with and what you have accomplished. I have tried elk hunting twice in the past two years to no avail. In reading your book I have come upon a knowledge that I don't think I would have gained otherwise.
Thank you,
