Tips for Elk Hunters

Some folks say that being successful at elk hunting is as much about luck as it is about planning and preparation. Funny, but in over 25 years of chasing elk all over God’s wonderful creation, it seems to me that those who have the most luck seem to be the ones who spend the most time planning and preparing themselves for the hunt. Now why is that?

This elk hunting thing really isn’t rocket science folks. For those of you who are new to this adventure or who have yet to bring one of these awesome beasts to ground, I know it probably looks like magic, mystery, or some type of other mumbo-jumbo that the rest of the elk hunters have conjured up. Honest, it’s not. Becoming successful at elk hunting isn’t all that different than becoming successful at any other endeavor. It will take a little time and there is a process involved, but for those who are willing to do the work, make a few sacrifices, and get a little more honest with yourself than you may be used to, a successful hunt could be just around the corner. Throughout this section of our website I have included a whole lot of free information and a few tips that we hope will help you become a more successful elk hunter. Some of this information comes from our books. For more tips & information on elk hunting, Click Here.

About thirty years ago a young USAF Captain  in the course of an interview tried to talk me out of flying fighter jets. As I was interviewing with the Texas Air National Guard for just such a position, I waited until the interview was over and asked him, why did you try so hard to talk me out of this? His reply was straight to the point and has stuck with me ever since. He said, “ Jay, if I could have talked you out of it sitting here in this office, then I would have known that you didn’t have what it takes to endure the years of training and make the sacrifices required to become a fighter pilot.”

So I ask you, do you want to be a successful elk hunter? Do you have what it takes? Are you prepared to endure hardship, long days, short nights, temperatures that can range from eighty degrees during the day to below zero at night? Will you go the distance, hiking up and down mountains all day every day with little encouragement? Are you willing to get smart, get in shape, listen and learn? Are you still willing to do what it takes?

If your answer to all the above is YES, maybe you will become an Elk Hunter. Let’s get started.  Go to the "THE HUNT button above and to the left, click on any slide-out box and begin the journey.
