Rain in many areas in southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico has been sparse leaving elk with fewer sources of water. If you are planning on hunting one of these areas, keep this in mind, Find the Water...Find the Elk. Water is essential to elk. Elk usually bed within 200-300 yards of a good water source. If you find a well used water source, avoid going down to the water's edge, rather use your optics to scout the area and how elk are entering and leaving the water hole in order to plan your setup. _________________ Jay Houston

what about areas where there is so much water the elk have webbed feet?
Seems like everywhere I look where I hunt I find water weather it be a stream or a pool, but I hardly ever find tracks around them, they must be drinking elsewhere. _________________ Get'em Duck |
